The utility meter is their property. It has been recommended to carefully pack the meter safely with bubble wrap and take pictures/video and ship it to them. Or drop it off to them personally and take pictures/video that you have dropped it off. You want to make sure they can't lie and say you didn't give it to them, or due to incompetence they lose it and blame you.
