Shielded power strip

Hi ElectraHealth,

Planning to purchase your shielded power strip, but have a few questions!


1. If I use an unshielded cord plugged into your shielded power strip, does that cord become shielded due to the strip?


2. If I turn off the power strip, but keep it plugged into the electrical wall outlet, do any of my unshielded cords plugged into the strip give off radiation/electrical fields? I wanted to know if I turn off the power strip when not in use, would I have to take out all of my unshielded cords to minimize EMI. (I understand from your videos when unshielded cords are plugged in the wall, but are not “on”, they are still giving off EMI.)

1) No, Shielding is aluminum wrapping on the inside of the cord and is a specialty product under most circumstances. The power strip has a custom modification where it is disassembled and reassembled using a shielded cord. 99% of stock cords are not shielded. Cords that are shielded cannot pass shielding on to non-shielded cords unfortunately.

2) Yes, your unshielded cords are always subject to small electrical fields when plugged in. The modification done to the power strip is to eliminate this very Electrical Field you are referencing. I would recommend turning off the power strip when not in use, but there is no reason to unplug all of your cables.
