router and ethernet grounding

Joanne Halpin 3 months ago updated by Brian Androwich 3 months ago 4

Hi! I've read the Q&A and got some great background, but I still have some questions:

I have an all-in-one modem and router installed with a wired phone line. It has all-plastic ports. There's not a
WiFi on/off switch, but I logged in to a Verizon site to disable wireless radio. I'm using ethernet cable that is yours and the adapter you sent with it has a metal port. So it seems to me that that would be grounding everything. I do have one of your Ethernet Grounding Adapter Kits, I just haven't used it because I figured that would be double grounding.. And I don't think I need the USB laptop grounder either, for the same reason.

I also have another one of your ethernet cables for my phone and the adaptor I got for that has a metal port, so I think that's okay. The power strip I got from you is where I'm charging my phone, so that's enough to protect from EMF while using and charging?

Please let me know what I'm missing for the optimal setup. Thank you!

Also, the laptop has a two prong plug but it's in a grounded outlet. I'm not sure if that's enough.

Hey Joanne,

If you are using our shielded ethernet cables, and have plastic ports on the back of your modem/router combo - then you will need an ethernet grounding adapter kit for each cable you are running from the back of the combo. The plastic ports you have on the back of it all break ground, instead of it having metal and allowing the ground to carry, resulting in only 1 adapter needed for all the cables.

The ethernet cable coming into the laptop would need a metal port on the laptop for it to ground the laptop, otherwise you would still want to use the USB adapter if you are using the laptop while you are plugged in.
